All four of my dogs have learned obedience basics as well as other less useful but fun behaviours with the use of a clicker. Rewards come in the shape of treats or toys. Food is a very important resource to a dog but toys, if the dog is taught to play with its owner, are very effective motivators because WE are vital to a dog's physical and mental well being.
I love training my dogs-for agility and to do other tricks and behaviours. I am always scouring the internet and books for more ideas and then figuring how to teach them.
I have successfully used clickers to train jumping skills, directional commands, contact behaviours and weaves, as well as waits and distance work. And my dogs seem to love me using them
